What have You Seen and Heard?

Daily Reading: Acts Chapter 22

By Sarah Mack

A prophecy is fulfilled, Paul is bound and put into chains. He is questioned, plotted against and his life is threatened. Through this chapter we see that the Holy Spirit gives Paul wisdom and clear words to speak in his defense. His defense isn’t about all that he has done right since being saved, it’s not about him at all. It’s about the power of God. His defense is Jesus. In troubled times, we are not left without wisdom, we aren’t hopeless or lost, there is a courage-giver that strengthens our frail heart, mind and soul.

Jesus’ love is so poured out that the people who rise up against Paul hear his testimony of what the Lord did for him. The Lord is fulfilling his word yet again as Paul witnesses to the Power of Christ’s love to save any and all people (ref. verses 14 and 15)! When Paul retells that it is “Jesus the Nazarene, whom you are persecuting” (verse 8) I wonder if the Holy Spirit reminded Paul in that moment that the persecution he was now undergoing was truly against His Lord.

Acts 22:14 &15 “And he said, ‘The God of our fathers has appointed you to know His will and to see the Righteous One and to hear an utterance from His mouth. For you will be a witness for Him to all men of what you have seen and heard.” Are not these verses for every Christian? Our testimony of how the Lord has brought us into Life with him is different and beautiful. The way he has been with us and worked from that point until today is different for each person as well. The Father has appointed us to a task of listening to Him and sharing of the goodness of our loving Father. Let us take time today to see our Righteous Father in truth and love. Let us sit in our Father’s arms and be held by him. Let us ask Him who the “all men” are in our lives, to whom He wants us to testify of his love and saving power today and in this season of life.
