2 Timothy 2:3-4 "Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets involved with civilian affairs - He wants to please his commanding officer."
Just as a soldier is familiar with the pain and grueling toil of battle, a soldier of Christ experiences hardship and spiritual battle firsthand. All believers enter a spiritual battle, and this Christian life is no lighthearted game. Have you been feeling wearied by battles or hardships in life? God tells you and me to be strong in His grace, to endure. Imagine if soldiers began to run away when things got hard. How much more should we stand confidently knowing that by enduring through hardship God uses us to advance an eternal kingdom that cannot be shaken? When we are weary from the heat of battle, there is a temptation for us to turn to "civilian affairs," to cease from viewing our lives as part of God's mission and for His glory. We begin to say, "What is in all this for me?" Instead of consoling ourselves with a bit of the world, let this fast be an opportunity for you and me to be consoled by getting alone with our commanding officer, to hear His gentle authority as He renews the sense of His direction, call, and purpose, in our lives.
