John chapter 20
By Pastor Sherry
This chapter certainly affected many emotions within me. To mention a few: sadness, elated happiness, amazement, and a deeper hunger for more.
The Disciples were about to embark on the most supernatural events ever to be recorded. First, the stone had been removed from the grave site for all to look inside. Second, those that looked inside saw a cocoon of Jesus in His grave clothes but He was not in them! Third, Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene. She sees two angels then turns and sees Jesus, but doesn’t recognize him until he spoke her name. Fourth, Mary was given the honorable command to go tell the “Good News” to the Disciples that were hiding in the upper room for fear of the Jews. I wonder why Mary is never mentioned as the very first Evangelist? Do you consider it an honorable command to tell others the “Good News”?
Fifth, Jesus appeared to the Disciples, His first words “Peace be with you.” Can you even imagine the emotions they were all feeling? Sixth, Jesus tells them, “As the Father sent me I am sending you, and with that He breathed on them and said, as the Father sent me I am sending you, and with that He breathed on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit.” Oh, that breath of God, as He filled Adams lungs with life so He gave breath and power to the Disciples. The Supernatural power that Raised Jesus from the dead called dunamis power (dynamite) was given to them and now us. This power gives all Christians inner power to live devotional, pure and Holy lives. This excites me!
Seventh, Jesus even went to Thomas a true doubter. He needed to see the nail marks and put his finger in Jesus side to believe. Jesus wasn’t hard on Thomas at all, He showed Thomas what he needed to equip him for ministry. Some of us doubt before we believe. If your doubting leads to questions and you get Godly answers than that can be a good thing. If doubt becomes stubborn and self serving then that will harm Faith. Matthew 6:33 says, “ But seek ye the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Eighth, the Disciples were now filled with Spirit Filled power (dunamis) and Spirit guided mission to “Preach the Good News“ so that people of all ages can experience forgiveness for their sins.” (Praise God) Ninth, Jesus can’t be with us physically, He was much smarter than that. He was confined in His body here on earth so He sent His Holy Spirit who is not confined, to live with and speak to us daily.
If you have accepted these truths and are walking with Jesus now, sit down and talk with Him. Ask Him if your life is being lived in the dunamis power that He gave you?
